The teaching of the course is based on an extensive reading of the works of narrative theorists and narrative-oriented culture theorists. The course is designed with a notion of ubiquity of narrative: narrative dominate our life and society. Human subject is formed through acquisition of language and story-telling, both of which are inscribed with narrative, so that narrative governs our perception of the world and ourselves, enabling us to build cultural system. As the central function of the human mind, narrative also offers itself as the sources to critique norms in society and transform the world. Due to the reasons above, the discussion of narrative in this course should not be confined to the reading of such literary texts as novels.
